Commercial Lunar
Payload Services
(CLPS2)
Overview
https://www.nasa.gov/content/commercial-lunar-
payload-services
• Rapid acquisition of payload delivery
services from American companies for
payloads that advance capabilities for
science, exploration and commercial
development of the Solar System
• Payload delivery services will include
science investigations, technology
demonstrations, and Moon Base
infrastructure and logistics.
• CLPS2 will provide a cornerstone for
solar system science and can
potentially be used for targets well
beyond the Moon.
-- 9 of 37 --
Vision and Objectives
Goals:
• Enable Science, Human Spaceflight, and Research and Technology Mission
Directorates to advance technologies and systems and conduct science in the solar
system
• Grow and sustain a commercial community of payload delivery service providers
for Artemis and Moon Base.
• Leverage lunar delivery surface providers to deliver Moon Base architecture
elements and infrastructure.
Objectives:
• Increase Mission Reliability: Improve the overall success rate of payload delivery
missions by implementing a more tailored risk posture and focusing the vendor
pool on credible suppliers to enable better planning and execution.
• Expand Lunar Delivery Capabilities: Develop and utilize vendor capabilities that
go beyond CLPS 1.0, including enhanced payload mass, the ability to survive the
lunar night, and the delivery of critical infrastructure elements for Moon Base.
• Reduce Total Program Lifecycle Cost: Achieve greater cost-effectiveness by
providing multiple task order awards per year, capitalizing on capability
investments from CLPS 1.0, and fostering a stable and competitive commercial
lunar market.
