Description
Performance: On-site
Scope: Contractor shall Provide all labor, materials, tooling and supervision to manufacture,
deliver and install Heat Shielding on the ITS Car Bottom Furnace to protect parts
from excessive heat when opening the doors of the furnace when it is at temperature. The heat
shielding to be provided shall include but is not limited to the following major components.
• Door mast heat shield
• Lift seal cylinder heat shield
• Cart drive heat shield
• Cart power reel heat shield
Heat Shielding Specifications: Heat shielding shall meet a minimum of the
following specifications.
Door Mast: Door Mast shall be constructed from insulated stainless steel and shall be
designed to protect the following components associated with the door mast. (Door Mast
Components):
• Door lift cylinder
• Door safety lock-out cylinders
• Bearings at the top of the door mast
• Grease lines to the bearings
Cart Bottom Seal: Individual insulated stainless steel heat shields shall be installed to protect
the cylinders that raise the cart seal.
Cart: An insulated stainless steel heat shield will be supplied to protect the cart drive and
power cord reel. Those components are:
Cart drive
Cart retractable power cord reel

Equipment Specifications: N/A
Contractor Responsibilities: "Per FAR 22.102-1(a) entitled "Safety",
Contractors are hereby informed that their employees or representatives present
on property under Norfolk Naval Shipyard cognizance must follow Federal and State
OSHA requirements; Norfolk Naval Shipyard OSHE Program Manual, NAVSHIPYDNORINST

P5090.2 requirements; OSHE Control Manual (OSHECM) requirements; or safety
requirements for site specific location of the contract."
Vendor is responsible for:
- Shipping equipment.
- Installation service including:
o Mechanical
▪ Re-assembly of equipment and components removed for
shipping.
▪ Field painting of required fabricated equipment with standard
colors as required.
▪ Any necessary touch-up painting.
o Electrical
▪ Field wiring between equipment and/or remote-control
panels, including all conduit and wire.
Shipyard Responsibilities: NNSY Is responsible for:
- Unloading of equipment.
- Clearing pathways from unloading site to installation site for moving equipment
and personnel access.
- Clearing the work area around installation site.
- Any required site cleaning before equipment arrival.
- Notification to the vendor of the requirement for any pre-installation meetings
or training necessary for plant access.
- Plant PPE requirements for the vendors installation crew.
- Customer site manager.
Lifting and Handling Requirements: NNSY will be required to assist with the
unloading of the parts and equipment delivered by the vendor.
Certification of Work Requirements: N/A
Testing: Operational testing of the oven will be performed.
Safety or Security: Contractor will need CIA access and PPE. "Per FAR 22.102-1(a)
entitled "Safety", Contractors are hereby informed that their employees or
representatives present on property under Norfolk Naval Shipyard cognizance
must follow Federal and State OSHA requirements and Norfolk Naval Shipyard
