What this opportunity is

The Department of Commerce is seeking a Second Harmonic Generation Microscope, specifically a scanning confocal microscope with a pulsed laser source and second harmonic detector, suitable for small businesses in the scientific and optical equipment sector (NAICS 334516). The solicitation allows for used or refurbished equipment, which may appeal to small businesses with access to such inventory. This is a Combined Synopsis/Solicitation notice, indicating that interested vendors should track the opportunity closely for potential bidding requirements.

Description

Requirements / Specification Document Requirements / Specifications: Second Harmonic Generation MicroscopeNB688000-26- 01634 1 Version 1.0 (2019) Double-click on  for further assistance. Use this document to detail specifications/requirements for an item and/or ancillary services.  TITLE: Second Harmonic Generation Microscope NB688000-26-01634  Requesting Lab/Division/Group: Physical Measurements Laboratory / Time and Frequency Division / Quantum & Nonlinear Nanophotonics Group General Statement of Need  We require a scanning confocal microscope configured with a pulsed laser source and second harmonic detector. All components may be used/refurbished condition (preferred). The laser should be order of <200 fs pulse duration, with a center wavelength ~800 nm and tunable ~200 nm, avg power >1 W. Typically, these are commercial titanium-sapphire pulsed laser sources. The microscope must support imaging of electrically poled domains in thin-film lithium niobate. Imaging is achieved by focusing the pulsed laser onto the thin film and detecting the reflected (reflection mode uses e.g., a dichroic to direct only the SH light to a detector) second harmonic light generated in the sample on a high sensitivity detector (e.g. visible PMT). By scanning the sample stage or beam, the second harmonic light vs. position enables constructing a map/image of the device, sensitive to crystal domain orientation since the detected signal is dependent on second harmonic generation. Items and/or Ancillary Services  Item 1: Scanning laser confocal microscope, reflection mode, SHG mode, with near-IR fs-pulsed source and high sensitivity visible wavelength detectors (e.g. Zeiss 510/780 or comparable) (used/refurbished is ok/preferred) Quantity: 1 Specifications: 1.1: Scanning laser microscope system with 2 photon/SHG detection / visible wavelength detection capability. 1.2: Reflection mode operation suited to imaging hard, nonlinear optical thin films (lithium niobate) on oxidized silicon wafers (detected light is reflected from wafer and directed to detectors via e.g. inline dichroic). 1.3: High sensitivity detectors (PMTs) suited to visible wavelength operation, sufficiently sensitive for collecting visible SHG light as driven by puled laser source. 1.4 Suitable optical filters for pump light rejection as required to enable high-sensitivity detection of SHG light. 1.5: Probe beam polarization control. 1.6: High magnification microscope objective for image resolution (>50x, 100x preferred). 1.7: Control PC or software Separately Priced Options and Services: Item 2: FS-pulsed-class excitation laser center wavelength ~800 nm and auxiliary components for operation (e.g. commercially available Coherent Chameleon Ti:Sapp, Spectra Mai Tai, or comparable) (used/refurb is ok/preferred) -- 1 of 4 -- Requirements / Specification Document Requirements / Specifications: Second Harmonic Generation MicroscopeNB688000-26- 01634 2 Version 1.0 (2019) Double-click on  for further assistance. Quantity: 1 Specifications: 2.1: Pulse width <200 fs. 2.2: center wavelength ~ 800 nm, tuning ~ 200 nm range). 2.3: Avg Power >1W. 2.4: Includes all components required for operation, e.g. chiller if needed.
