What this opportunity is

The Department of Commerce is seeking a closed cycle cryostat with a base temperature below 4 K for the Physical Measurements Laboratory's Spin Electronics Group. This Sources Sought notice indicates a potential opportunity for small businesses specializing in cryogenic equipment, particularly those with capabilities in manufacturing new systems that meet specific technical requirements. Interested vendors should note that this is a market research notice, meaning they should focus on demonstrating their capabilities rather than submitting formal bids at this stage.

Description

Requirements / Specification Document Requirements / Specifications: 4 KELVIN CLOSED CYCLE CRYOSTAT 1 Version 1.0 (2019) Double-click on  for further assistance. Use this document to detail specifications/requirements for an item and/or ancillary services.  TITLE: 4 KELVIN CLOSED CYCLE CRYOSTAT  Requesting Lab/Division/Group: Physical Measurements Lab/Applied Physics Division/Spin Electronics Group NB686000-26-01896 General Statement of Need  The Spin Electronics Group of the Physical Measurement Laboratory requires the purchase of cryostat for characterization of our superconducting devices and circuits. The cryostat must be closed cycle with no liquid cryogens required and must have a base temperature below 4 K. The cryostat must have a large sample space with at least a 250 mm diameter and 225 mm height for the sample space on the lowest temperature stage and must use non-magnetic materials in the sample space. The system will be used to characterize devices and circuits made for our pi- ground state Josephson junction research and for testing electrical performance of superconducting digital logic circuits that will be imaged in our scanning superconducting quantum interference device microscope. The cryostat must meet base temperature specifications, time to cool down specifications, and non-magnetic materials specifications and to ensure our ability to rapidly test new device and circuit designs and materials. The Contractor shall provide a system that meets all technical specifications identified below. All items must be new. Used or remanufactured equipment will not be considered for award. Experimental, prototype, or custom items will not be considered. The use of “gray market” components are not authorized for sale in the U.S. by the Contractor is not acceptable. All line items shall be shipped in the original manufacturer’s packaging and include all original documentation and software, when applicable.
