Requirements / Specification Document TITLE: Narrow Linewidth Laser Requesting Laboratory / Division / Group: Communications Technology Laboratory Radio Frequency Technology Division High-Speed Waveform Metrology Group (672.03) General Statement of Need: The requested narrow-linewidth laser system shall provide an ultra-stable optical frequency reference at 1550 nm to support traceable electro-optic waveform metrology, coherent timing distribution, and synchronization applications. The laser shall operate in the C-band and provide single-frequency continuous-wave output with an ultra-narrow linewidth (< 1 Hz class) suitable for coherent optical referencing and phase-stable measurement architectures. The system shall include integrated driver and controller electronics with thermal frequency tuning capability over approximately 10 GHz and support external frequency modulation through a low-RAM modulation input with bandwidth from DC to approximately 100 kHz. The laser shall provide fiber-coupled output near 1550 nm with output power around 20 mW and shall support stable operation in laboratory environments requiring low phase noise, high coherence length, and long-term frequency stability. The narrow-linewidth optical source is required to establish traceability to precision frequency and timing references for electro-optic sampling, dual-comb waveform reconstruction, and ultrafast metrology systems.
