What this opportunity is
NASA is procuring a vacuum pumping system for installation at the Armstrong Test Facility, which includes turbo and roughing pumps, valves, and necessary connections. This opportunity is a total small business set-aside, making it suitable for small businesses in the manufacturing sector under NAICS 333912. Interested vendors should note that this is a combined synopsis/solicitation, indicating they need to prepare a proposal rather than simply tracking the notice.

SCOPE of SUPPLY
The scope of this procurement covers the delivery a vacuum pumping system to be installed
and operated at the NASA Armstrong Test Facility (ATF), including spare vacuum pumps.
The pumping system will be installed on a 6 foot diameter, approximately 10 foot tall vacuum
chamber, evacuating the system to less than 5 x 10-6 Torr. The turbo pump will be directly
mounted to a 10 inch inner diameter flange. The roughing pump will back up the turbopump
and also have a bypass loop around the turbopump to allow for direct pumping on the
vacuum chamber. Cooling is to be via water cooling with entrance temperatures at room
temperature. The detailed requirements and vendor proposal response guidelines for the
vacuum pumping system with spares requested by the government, are defined in this
procurement specification and are herein outlined below numerically by items 1 thru 27 for
those interested and qualified vendor/suppliers to respond to.

3) Process Description: The turbo pump will be direct mounted to the vacuum chamber
on a 10” ID port (ASA 10, but adaptable) with an existing gate
valve. The roughing pump will be configured such that it can
either back the turbo pump or perform roughing capabilities
directly on the vacuum chamber through a separate KF-40
flange. Figure 1 shows this in schematic form.
