SECTION 01 11 00 - SUMMARY OF WORK
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.0 SUMMARY
A. This Section includes the following:
1. Work Covered by the Contract Documents.
2. Actions Integral to the Work: Access and Sequencing.

1.1 WORK COVERED BY CONTRACT DOCUMENTS
A. Project Location: Muir Woods National Monument, Marin County, within the Golden Gate
National Recreation Area (GGNRA), a unit of the National Park Service (NPS). Muir Woods
is a protected old-growth redwood forest.
B. Most of the work is within the channel and channel banks of Conlon Creek and its tributary.
C. This Project is a composite of one drawing set, Conlon Creek Stream Stabilization, February
2026, and a single set of specifications.
D. Site Access: Access to the staging area for the Contractor shall be the entrance to the Conlon
Parking Lot.
E. The Work occurs in the creek channel and embankments as well as the adjoining tributary
channel:
1. Conlon Creek:
a. If surface flows present, install water diversion system and maintain dewatered work
zone through construction.
b. Conduct site preparations including salvaging of native plants, clearing and grubbing
c. Remove and dispose of existing culvert now exposed in the creek bed.
d. Remove and dispose of three existing rock and concrete headwalls and metal trash
rack.
e. Remove existing trees and re-use as shown on the Drawings.
f. Remove existing rock slope protection (RSP) materials from failed channel crossing
and place in tributary channel as directed.
g. Grade channel and channel banks as shown on Drawings. Excess bank materials
generated shall be placed in tributary channel while native gravels used where
Drawings indicate enginereed streambed materials.
h. Grade channel bed and toes of banks.
i. Install rock weirs and grade control structures as shown on the drawings.
j. Install salvaged native plants.
k. Install permanent erosion control measures (e.g., erosion control blanket, fiber rolls,
and pine duff) after finish grading.

SUMMARY OF WORK
2. Tributary to Conlon Creek:
a. Conduct site preparations including salvaging of native plants as directed by CO
and clearing and grubbing
b. Bury RSP removed from Conlon Creek channel in tributary channel bottom.
c. Place and compact soils generated from excavation of Conlon Creek channel in
tributary channel to the lines and grades shown in the Drawings.
d. Excavate and place Rock Slope Protection materials at the rock control structures
shown on the drawings.
e. Install permanent erosion control measures (e.g., erosion control blanket, fiber
rolls, and pine duff) after finish grading.
F. All the items shown in these specifications and drawings will be constructed under a single
prime contract.
G. Items which are integral to this contract are described below:
1. Access Management and Protections
a. The Pump House staging area is accessible to Contractor vehicles and equipment.
b. The only road suitable to import equipment on oversized vehicles is via State Hwy
1. Caltrans has restrictions and requirements for oversized vehicles on a segment of
this road. Caltrans will likely require a permit and California Highway Patrol escorts
for an oversized vehicle, both of which require substantial advance submittals and
scheduling. The Contractor shall apply to Caltrans for a permit, if needed, as soon as
reasonably possible after contract award to avoid delays in the Work and to enable
completion of the work within the permissible work window
(Section 01 54 00 Traffic Control).
c. A separate temporary water diversion system is required for work within Conlon
Creek. Equipment may not enter a channel Work Zone until it is dewatered by the
Contractor, with fish removed by NPS (Section 01 45 00 Environmental Protection).
2. Work Window

Contractor to complete the project in the permissible construction window.
