THE JPSS-1 MISSION INSTRUMENT COMPLEMENT INCLUDES THE VISIBLE INFRARED IMAGING RADIOMETER SUITE (VIIRS), THE CROSS TRACK INFRARED SOUNDER (CRIS), THE ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY MICROWAVE SOUNDER (ATMS), THE OZONE MAPPING PROFILER SUITE NADIR PROFILER (OMPS-N), AND THE CLOUDS AND THE EARTHS RADIANT ENERGY SYSTEM (CERES) INSTRUMENT. ON JPSS-2/3/4 THE CERES INSTRUMENT IS REPLACED BY THE RADIATION BUDGET INSTRUMENT (RBI). JWST IS THE PLANNED SUCCESSOR TO THE HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE, AND IS A TECHNICALLY CHALLENGING PROJECT TO BUILD A SPACECRAFT CONSISTING OF A 6.5 METER PRIMARY MIRROR AND FOUR PRIMARY INSTRUMENTS OPERATING IN THE INFRARED SPECTRUM AT VERY LOW TEMPERATURES, WHILE ORBITING APPROXIMATELY 1.5 MILLION KILOMETERS FROM THE EARTH. BECAUSE OF THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROJECT, JWST IS ALREADY SUBJECT TO INDEPENDENT EXTERNAL REVIEWS, AND THIS TEAM IS NOT INTENDED TO DUPLICATE OR CONFIRM THE FINDINGS OF THOSE REVIEWS.
