Statement of Work
1.0 SCOPE: The Government has a requirement for one (1 EA) 5-ton (10,000 lb.)
top-running, single-girder bridge crane, without support structure, painted safety
yellow. The bridge crane shall be installed in Building 129, Anniston Army Depot
(ANAD)."
The bridge crane shall be designed and constructed to the Crane
Manufacturers Association of America (CMAA) moderate service
requirements by a certified CMAA shop, for operation in an industrial
environment. Codes, which shall govern this scope of work, include
Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) 1910.179, CMAA
spec # 70 & 74, Class C, American National Standards Institute (ANSI)
B30.2, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70, National
Electrical Code (NEC) Article 610, TB-43-0142, and American Welding
Society (AWS) 14.1.
2.0 BACKGROUND: The government has a new requirement for one (1) 5-
ton bridge crane to be furnished and installed over the 850-transmission
test stand in building 129. The new bridge crane will replace the existing
5T bridge crane that has reached the end of its useful life and load and
unload each transmission to and from the test stand from the
surrounding floor space. The interior dimensions of the test stand room
are approximately 27’ wide, 60’ long, and 24’ to lowest point of interior
ceiling. The test stand room has 480V service for new crane.
3.0 CONTRACTOR REQUIREMENTS:
3.1. The Contractor shall not proceed with any verbal or written change(s) to
the scope of work from sources other than the Contracting Officer, who
will provide changes in writing.
3.2 EQUIPMENT TO BE PROVIDED: The contractor shall provide one (1) 5-
ton (10,000 lb), top running single girder bridge crane without support
structure, painted safety yellow, that meets the following specifications.
3.2.1. ELECTRIC HOIST: The contractor shall provide a chain hoist of the
heavy-duty type, a 5-ton rating, and electric motor operated. The lower
load block and hook shall not be considered part of the rated capacity.
The hoist shall meet the following specifications:
3.2.1.1. Capacity: Hoist – 5-ton, 10,000 lbs.

3.2.1.2. Number Required: 1
3.2.1.3. Lift and Profile: Available lift capability shall be 20’.
3.2.1.4. Lifting Speeds: Two-speed - 25/8 fpm, VFD controlled.
3.2.1.5. Electrical Service: 480 Volt, 3-phase, 60 hertz A.C (The contractor shall verify
the voltage before any electrical components are ordered). Contractor shall
provide the disconnect for the crane and the contractor shall be responsible for
connecting to the disconnect from ANAD supplied power source.
3.2.1.6. Control: The pendant shall be free floating and located at a maximum of 3'-0"
from the bottom of the pendant to the finished floor. The systems shall also
have radio control and be supplied with 2 remotes.
3.2.1.7. Power Source: The hoist electrification system shall be enclosed conductor bar
or festoon.
3.2.1.8. Limit Switches: The hoist shall be provided with a limit switch for
control of the hook at maximum raised position and hook in the
extreme lower position.
3.2.2. HOIST TROLLEY: The contractor shall provide a chain hoist trolley that meets
the following specifications:
3.2.2.1. Trolley shall be rated at 5-tons, 10,000lbs.
3.2.2.2. Number Required: 1
3.2.2.3. Speed: Shall be 2 speed - 50 ft/min high; 25 ft/min low (plus or minus 10%). Variable drive
frequency (VFD) controlled.
3.2.2.4. Drive: Travel of the trolley shall be pendant and radio controlled.
3.2.3. BRIDGE SYSTEM: The contractor shall provide a bridge system of dual speed,
top running single girder type. Bridge and drive system shall be compatible and
as generally offered within the manufacturer's product line. Two capacity plates
shall be provided, one for each side of the bridge. Each plate shall be lettered to
indicate the total rated hoisting capacity of the crane. All lettering shall be of
sufficient size to be easily read from the floor. Each lower load block shall be
marked with the hoist rated capacity. The bridge system shall mee the following
specifications:
3.2.3.1. Bridge Span: Approximately 27’.

3.2.3.2. Bridge height: Approximately 24’.
3.2.3.3. Number required: 1
3.2.3.4. Bridge Drive: Drive units shall be dual speed of 115 ft/min high and 50
ft/min low, (plus or minus 10%), be VFD controlled and operate from
insulated type conductor rails.
3.2.3.5. Bridge Girders: Bridge girders shall be wide flange beams, standard I-
Beams, reinforced beams or sections fabricated from rolled plates and
shapes. Bridge shall be designed for all dead and live loads plus a
safety factor of five (5).
3.2.3.6. Stops and Bumpers: Structural trolley stops shall be provided on the
bridge to engage the trolley wheels. Stops shall be located to permit
maximum trolley travel.
3.2.3.7. Bridge Rails: Bridge rails shall be fastened to the top cover plate with
welded clips or J-bolts. Bridge rail joints shall be bolted using standard
joint bars. Rail joints shall be staggered. A positive stop shall be
provided at the bridge rail ends to prevent creeping. Bridge rails shall
be of the size recommended by the crane manufacturer and specified
in the contract drawings.
3.2.3.8. Bridge Electrification: All pushbuttons or other manually operated
controls shall be energized at a nominal 120 volts through control
transformers as may be required. Push buttons shall be oil tight and
heavy-duty type. Hoist control shall satisfy the applicable requirements
of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), Industrial
Control and Systems Standards. All wiring shall be in accordance with
the National Electric Code. All electrical panels and boxes shall be
marked and labeled in accordance with National Fire Protection
Association (NFPA) 70e standards, also written lockout/tagout
procedures for this equipment must be provided and attached to
lockout/ tagout points.
