Description
Statement of Work
1. Objective/Requirements
The Human Research Program funded the project, “Investigating Structure and Function of the Eye.”
This study is collecting ocular data using advanced ophthalmic hardware. Electroretinogram (ERG)
data was collected to assess global ganglion cell function. Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT)
intravenous fluorescein angiography (IVFA) data was collected to determine whether the retinal
blood barrier is disrupted due to spaceflight. OCT-A was collected to assess the vasculature of the
retina.
Vendor shall analyze 25 ERG datasets, 25 OCT-A datasets, and 3 OCT IVFA datasets. Vendor must
have experience in advanced ocular assessments collected with the specific vendor devices used
for this study.
2. Characteristics, Scope, Specs
The contractor shall perform the following duties:
ERG datasets
o Analyze pERG (pattern ERG) data to assess retinal ganglion cell function. Analyze
both small and large check pattern protocols.
o Analyze and quantify the amplitudes of the PhNR (photopic negative response) data
obtained via ERG
IVFA datasets
o assess the retinal vasculature and evidence of vascular leakage over time
o provide interpretation of the retinal blood barrier integrity
OCT-A datasets
o Analyze the ocular vasculature of the retina at the macula and optic nerve head with
OCT-A images
o Assess the density and axial distribution of the retinal microvasculature with OCT A
images
o Develop perfusion and vessel density maps
o Analyze size and area of flow voids in retinal layers
Compare to other datasets previously analyzed to provide comprehensive final results and
interpretation summary.
Complete analysis in a timely manner to support SANS milestones
3. Place of Performance
University of California, San Diego in San Diego, California
4. Period of Performance
Analysis shall be performed August 1, 2026-July 31, 2028 with 1 option year.
Period of Performance: 8/1/2026-7/31/2028
-- 1 of 2 --
Option Year 1: 8/1/2028-7/31/2029
Deliverables
End of year 1: Complete analysis of 17 ERG data sets, 17 OCTA data sets, and 3 IVFA data sets.
End of year 2: Complete analysis 5 ERG data sets and 5 OCTA data sets.
End of year 3: Complete analysis of 3 ERG data sets and 5 OCTA data sets
