Statement Of Specification for the Procurement of a Vertical
Tilt-Frame Bandsaw
1. SCOPE: This Specifications defines the requirements for one each (1 ea.) VERTICAL Tilt-
Frame Metal cutting Band Saw.
2. DESCRIPTION: The equipment shall consist of one each (1 ea.) Vertical Tilt-Frame bandsaw
(Amada VT4555M or equivalent) that meets a minimum of the following requirements.
2.1. DESIGN: The machine shall be new and unused, capable of performing its intended
function. The machine shall be complete, so that when connected to the utilities
identified herein, it can be used for any function for which it is designed and constructed.
2.2. WORKTABLE: The machine shall be equipped with a T-slotted worktable that has a
Work area of 24.25” x 33” a Table height of 38” and two machined T-slots.
2.3. ELECTRICAL DESIGN: The entire electrical system shall conform to the
requirements below and NFPA '79. All machine components shall use a single electrical
source.
2.4. WORK LIGHT: The equipment shall include a work light to illuminate the work
envelope. The lighting shall comply with NFPA 79 requirements and have a protective
shield. Fluorescent or other lighting with a strobe effect is not acceptable.

2.5. CONTROLS: Operator controls, instrumentation and indicators shall be mounted
convenient to operating personnel. Such devices shall be clearly and legibly marked for
function and identification. Controls shall be fitted with suitable handles, push buttons,
or control knobs, as applicable. Controls shall be provided with an IEC fused disconnect
switch and magnetic motor starters with overload and low-voltage protection. Power
supply shall provide low voltage (24 volts DC) control to all push buttons at operator’s
control panel and machine lighting circuits. The PLC control and drives shall be
mounted in a moisture-tight compartment with vibration isolation mounting.
2.6. FRONT MOUNTED SPEED CONTROL: Machine shall be equipped with Front-
Mounted Speed Control that allows blade speed to be adjusted from operator’s control
station.
2.7. ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT: All Electrical Equipment shall conform to National
Electrical Code NFPA 79 and The Electrical Control Panel shall be U.L. Labeled.
1.1. SAFETY SIGNS AND LABELS: Safety signs and labels shall be in accordance with
NEMA Z535.4. Safety signs and labels shall be securely attached to the equipment in
visible locations, at the point of hazard(s), with any safety precautions to be observed by
the operator or maintenance personnel permanently marked on the signs.
1.2. BAND WHEELS: Band wheels shall be manufactured from cast iron with a diameter
no less than 19”.
1.3. MITER CUTTING: Column and blade shall tilt up to 60° right and left of vertical with
work always stationery.
1.4. SAW FEED STOPS: Machine shall be equipped with Adjustable stops can be pre-set to
stop advance of the saw head and return of blade and to stop motor at any location
within the 18” (457 mm) travel of the blade.
1.5. WORK HOLDING VISE: Vise shall meet a minimum of the following requirements.
a) Maximum opening 18” (minimum)
b) Jaws designed to be shifted to either right or left side of blade
c) Jaws shall be 6” high and 12” wide.
1.6. SAFETY GUARDING: Covers, guards, or other safety devices shall be provided per
ANSI B11.22 and 29 CFR 1910. The safety devices shall not interfere with the
operation of the machine. The safety devices shall prevent unintentional contact with
the guarded part, and shall be removable to facilitate inspection, maintenance, and repair
of the parts.
1.7. COOLANT SYSTEM: Machine shall be provided with a 21-gallon flood coolant
system controlled by on-off selector switch at operator’s station.
1.8. GUIDE SYSTEM: upper and lower guides shall be equipped with preloaded carbide
faced back-up blocks to support the back edge of the blade.
1.9. INTERCHANGEABILITY: All parts subject to replacement shall be manufactured to
definite dimensions and tolerances. Replacement parts shall be interchangeable without
requiring modification.
1.10. LUBRICATION: Bearings (except sealed-for-life and self-lubricating type),
mating gears and sliding parts shall be provided with means for lubrication. Reservoirs

of splash-type systems shall be fitted with oil level sight gauges. Automatic force-feed
and manually operated force feed systems shall be supplied with a filter. Manually
operated systems shall have control handles mounted in an accessible location
convenient to the operator. Oil holes, grease fittings and filler caps shall be easily
accessible.
