Description

1 Statement of Work DAVINCI Venus Test Chamber Requirements Development and Conceptual Design Version 3.0 June 22, 2026 1. General Information DAVINCI is a Venus probe mission which will study the composition of the Venus atmosphere during a parachute-assisted and free-falling descent through the Venus atmosphere. DAVINCI will return near-surface images of a tesserae region of surface geography. The mission is planned for launch in December 2030. Following a cruise phase to Venus, the spacecraft will deliver the DAVINCI probe into the Venus atmosphere in October 2032. A Venus Test Chamber is proposed to be equipped with all necessary equipment to simulate the pressure and temperature of the Venus environment to be encountered by the DAVINCI probe and will be required by NASA for testing DAVINCI development units and flight hardware. 2. Scope This Statement of Work (SOW) defines the tasks for preliminary requirements development and conceptual design of the Venus Test Chamber. This SOW applies to contractors and subcontractors required to complete the tasks specified herein. The requirements development and conceptual chamber design are required in order to be able to specify the chamber dimensions once full-scale development begins. The contractor shall provide the personnel and analysis necessary to generate the conceptual design of the chamber in accordance with specified SOW tasks. NASA GSFC shall supply the Computer Aided Design (CAD) model(s) of the test article and any other test article parameters/dimensions as well as the test profiles. NASA GSFC subject matter experts will be available to answer any questions needed. The contractor shall provide a Rough-Order-of-Magnitude (ROM) cost estimate and schedule plan to aid DAVINCI long-term programmatic planning. This SOW defines the contractor tasks, deliverables, responsibilities, and schedule, either within this document or by reference. 3. Technical Requirements The contractor shall develop, in conjunction with the GSFC DAVINCI engineers, a model of the Venus Test Chamber conceptual design to determine chamber dimensions to enable chamber hemisphere procurement when the contractor is put on contract for the actual Test Chamber design, fabrication, and verification. Design is expected to be bolstered by sufficient -- 1 of 3 -- 2 mechanical/electrical engineering and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis to ensure that the chosen dimensions can fully accommodate the test article, including provisions for installing and mounting the test article in the chamber, and high-cost driving features in the chamber are identified. The contractor shall provide additional technical details regarding the analysis if needed. 4. Period of Performance and Delivery Dates The period of performance for this work is from July 01, 2026 through September 30, 2026. 5. Applicable/ Reference Documents All applicable and reference documentation identified in this document shall apply in the situations where they are specifically referenced. In the event of a conflict between the SOW and the specification, the SOW shall take precedence. The documents listed in this section apply directly to the performance of the contract: DAVINCI-MGMT-SPEC-0002, Venus Test Chamber Specification (previously supplied) 6. Program Management The contractor shall designate and identify by name a single individual who shall serve as a point aspects. 7. Reporting The contractor shall prepare and present to the NASA/GSFC COR a summary presentation of the requirements derivation and conceptual design results along with a summary presentation on the ROM costs and schedules. 8. Reviews and Meeting The contractor shall support biweekly meetings via teleconference and a presentation of the requirements development and conceptual design work via teleconference. -- 2 of 3 -- 3 Appendix A Abbreviations and Acronyms CAD CFD COR DAVINCI FY GSFC NASA ROM SOW Computer-Aided Design Computational Fluid Dynamics Contract Officer Representative Deep Atmosphere Venus Investigation of Noble gases, Chemistry and Imaging Fiscal Year Goddard Space Flight Center National Aeronautics and Space Administration Rough Order of Magnitude Statement Of Work -- 3 of 3 --
