Project: Milk testing for fat, protein, and milk weight (With Base plus 4 Option
Years)
Scope:
USDA, Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Dairy Forage Research Center (DFRC) is
seeking quotes for a service which will test cow’s milk for fat, protein, and milk weight
under a firm-fixed price contract with a Base plus Four Option Years.
There will be an approximate average of 360 samples. The numbers can fluctuate, the
number of samples last year ranged from 330-370 which will be collected on a monthly
basis by the potential contractor from Prairie du Sac Farm located at S8822 Sunset Dr,
Prairie du Sac, WI 53578.
Background:
Milk testing of approximately 360 cows a month on average (could range between 330-370
cows) for the Prairie du Sac farm herd is essential to notify us if cow’s diet is balanced or
indicates (if output is more than ration provides) if the cow is in a negative energy balance
(ketosis or other metabolic problems).
Technical Requirements/Tasks:
Milk samples will be taken by the contractor at Prairie du Sac Farm located at S8822
Sunset Dr, Prairie du Sac, WI 53578. The contractor will record milk weights once per
month and perform milk testing for fat, protein and milk weight.

2. DHI "Official" test designation is needed for recording in the Council on Dairy Cattle
Breeding system.

Key Deliverables:
• Milk testing report - generated from results of Milk testing quality (task 1). These can
be available either in print out form or through an online access portal.
Delivery:
Raw sample data for each sample will be delivered to Shan Betzold the herd manager, along
with the final sample within 30 days of testing. All data files will be transferred digitally or
through an online access portal. The specific number of samples will be contingent on the
size of the herd when samples are drawn.
Please quote the Base Year and 4 optional years as follows:
• Base: 06/04/2026 – 06/03/2027
• Option Year 1: 06/04/2027 – 06/03/2028
• Option Year 2: 06/042028 – 06/03/2029
• Option Year 3: 06/04/2029 – 06/03/2030

Location of the Government site is USDA-ARS Prairie du Sac, WI and will be identified in
the contract. The Government anticipates award of a Firm-Fixed Price Indefinite Delivery,
Indefinite Quantity contract with a base and four option years.
