Class III cultural resources inventory is a systematic inspection of the land surface carried out by walking a series of close-interval parallel transects until the area has been thoroughly examined. Artificial exposure of the subsurface (via auger or shovel testing) is sometimes a necessary part of a Class III cultural resources inventory and should be included in identification efforts if vegetation density reduces ground/surface visibility below 30 percent; soils conditions are conductive to aggradation; or are stable.
