Description
SPECIFICATIONS
I. BACKGROUND
The ARS Environmental Microbial and Food Safety Laboratory (EMFSL) in
Beltsville, Maryland plans to purchase unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) systems
to support the development of a multi agent autonomous system for detecting
animal intrusion in leafy green produce fields. As a ground truthing agent, the UGV
should be a quadrupedal platform capable of autonomous navigation in novel field
environments while minimizing crop damage. The platform should include an
onboard autonomy system, a hot swappable spare battery for extended operation,
and support for user added external payloads to enable integration of sensing and
imaging technologies. The goal of this research is to develop a single operator
system capable of real time detection of past animal intrusion events. Achieving
this objective requires a UGV platform that provides full programmability at the
joint level, supports precise movement control, and allows flexible payload
integration as part of a fully autonomous field inspection system.
II. REQUIREMENTS
UGV System must include:
● UGV Robot
● Spare hot-swappable battery
UGV Requirements:
● Minimum Speed: 1.5 m/s
● Minimum Step Height: 0.3 m
● Maximum Weight: 75 lb
● Minimum Battery Size: 500 Wh
● Minimum Payload Interfaces: 2
● Minimum Supplied Payload Power: 150 W
● Ingress Protection: IP 54 or better
Software and Integration Requirements:
● Python SDK
● Nvidia Isaac simulation support
● Support for joint-level control of the UGV
● Access to API used for object detection and avoidance
● Multi-band WiFi control with option for user- installed alternative
communication.
