Shade Structure Canopy
1. Purchase 2 shade covers, with a fabric canopy, each 20’ foot in length x 25’ foot projection (width)
from the post outward having 10’-foot entry height. This structure will be installed in grass.
The following parts make up the project at a minimum:
A. Eight (8) Hollow Structural Section (HSS) steel post 6.625 inches x0.280 inches, 10’ feet long
B. Eight (8) Hollow Structural Section (HSS) steel cantilever structures 5.5563 x 0.258 sections
designed to hold 2 fabric sections each providing a 20’ x 25’ shade. The post will be mounted in the grass
with the overhang providing 25 feet of shade from the post outward. Each section will be installed next to
each other providing 40’x25’ of coverage.
STRUCTURAL STEEL
1. All structural shapes shall be cold formed hss astm a500 grade c, unless otherwise noted,
typical mechanical properties for hss products:
hss 0 5.563 x 0.258 46,000 psi yield stress / 62,000 psi tensile stress
hss 0 6.625 x 0.280 46,000 psi yield stress / 62,000 psi tensile stress
2. All plate products shall comply with astm a572 grade 50.
3. All steel tubing shall be triple coated for rust protection using the in-line electroplating
Coat process. Tubing shall be internally coated with zinc and organic coatings to prevent corrosion
As manufactured by allied tube & conduit.
4. Structural steel shall be detailed, fabricated and erected in accordance with a.i.s.c.
Specifications.
5. All shop welds shall be executed in accordance with the latest edition of the American
Welding Society (aws) d1.1 specifications. All welds shall be continuous where length is not given, and
be made using e70xx .045 wire.
6. Shop connections shall be welded unless noted otherwise. Field connections shall be as
Indicated on the drawings (if required). All fillet welds shall be a minimum of 3/16" unless
Otherwise noted. Field welds shall not be allowed.
7. All high-strength bolts shall comply with ASTM a325 type 1. All nuts shall comply with
ASTM A563dh, and washers shall comply with ASTM f436.
8. All high strength bolts shall be tightened to a snug tight condition.
9. All structural steel shall be painted with one shop coat (2.5 to 3.5 mils thick min). This
coat is a weather resistant powder coating based on Polyester TGIC (Triglycidyl Isocyanurate). To

achieve optimum adhesion, it is recommended that the proper treatment and drying ake place before
coating. Polyester powder (TGIC) specifications shall be as follows:
- pencil hardness (astm d-3363)
- humidity (astm d-2247)
- solvent resistance (pci method)- 50 dbl rubs sl. Softnes
C. One (1) Desert San color Fabric designed to cover the 40’ x 40’ shade.
FABRIC SPECIFICATION:
1. Fabric shall be a high-density polyethylene with ultraviolet additives, with monofilament
and tape construction giving a stable material and rachel knitted to ensure material will not unravel if cut.

1. Wire rope cable shall be 7x19 strand core galvanized wire rope with a breaking strength value
of 14,500 lbs (3/8" diameter).
2. Cables shall be fed through the fabric sleeves around the perimeter of the canopy and tensioned
until the fabric panels (designed purposely undersized) reach a taunt appearance.
