Requirements / Specification Document TITLE: Stable Optical Reference Laser Requesting Laboratory / Division / Group: Communications Technology Laboratory Spectrum Technology and Research Division Fiber Sources and Applications Group (675.02) General Statement of Need: The Fiber Sources and Applications group is developing precision ranging and timing solutions for deployment in free-space environments. To minimize measurement uncertainty and ensure system synchronization, these fielded units require a robust optical reference capable of providing dual-frequency comb systems to a drift-free frequency standard. Current laboratory solutions are too bulky for field use; therefore, we require a portable, ruggedized frequency reference designed for 19-inch rack-mount integration. The hardware must demonstrate exceptional long-term stability, specifically maintaining a fractional frequency stability of 3×10−14 or better, to ensure that timing drift does not compromise the precision of the ranging data during extended field operations.
