-- 1 of 20 -- US EMBASSY, NEW DELHI STATEMENT OF WORKS FOR UPGRADE OF SWIMMING POOL AND DECK TILES – ANNEXURE 01 1.0 DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES REQUIRED: The United States Embassy in New Delhi has a requirement to resurface the Embassy’s swimming pool (i.e. Main Big pool, Toddler pool with related balancing tank) floor and sides with customer approved tiles and replace existing pool deck floor with flooring as per customer’s choice. This project requires an experienced contractor technically capable of executing the job and completing the work per required deadlines. The Contractor shall provide all labor, material and tools, equipment, supervision and other related items required to complete the project as per scope of work, specifications and attached drawings. Contractors are advised to visit the site, verify the existing site conditions along with re check of the target site dimensions provided in the general statement of work to develop their proposal/quote before submission. The scope of work includes demolition of existing pool and deck tiles, sub-base preparation and waterproofing of the pools, Installation of New approved tiles and deck flooring, replacement of other associated items like nozzles, pool lights with related electricals, ladders ,pool steps and drains etc. 2.0 REQUIRED SUBMITTALS FOR PROPOSAL: A. Product Data: Manufacturer’s data sheets on each product to be used, including: 1. Preparation instructions and recommendations. 2. Installation methods to include building materials used for installation. B. Selection samples: For each finish product specified, samples must be presented to Embassy COR for approvals. C. Verification samples: For each finish product specified, two samples, minimum size 6 inches by 6 inches/whichever size is available in the market shall be presented to Embassy COR for inspection. D. Two types of surfaces are required for the project. Type I- will be a semi rough, Anti slip and heat-resistant tile for the deck flooring. Type II – Smooth surface tile for the pools, balancing tank floor and slides. Requirement— -- 2 of 20 -- • Main Big pool + Toddler pool --- 7700 Sqft. • Pool Deck (around Main big pool and Toddler pool) --- 7700 Sqft. E. Complete Bill-Of-Materials (BOM) will also be required to determine if construction materials are intended for marine use and long-term water submersion in a swimming pool. 3.0 QUALITY ASSURANCE: 1.Contractor Qualifications: - a. Contractor and/or Installer Qualifications will include history of swimming pool construction and restoration with contact information of clients for verification of work history. b. Mock-Up: Provide a mock-up for evaluation of surface preparation techniques and application workmanship. Mockups will be made of tiles mounted to cementitious pool substrate. The size of the sample shall be 30cmX30cm at a minimum. 2.Mockup will be inspected for workmanship, color, texture and durability by the COR. 4.0 SCOPE OF WORK: The contractor shall be responsible for carrying out the following: Prepare the work area around the target zone with proper barricading, tools and supplies placement that provides safe work. A- The POOL DECK FLOOR REPLACEMENT WORKS will be executed as follows- Phase 1: Removal of Old Stone • Protect the pool: Cover the pool water with heavy-duty plastic sheeting to catch debris. • Disconnect fixtures: Remove pool ladders, railings, and drainage grates before starting. • Break up stone: Use a demolition hammer or jackhammer to crack the existing stone. • Chisel the thinset: Scrape away the old mortar down to the bare concrete subfloor. • Initial debris clear: Shovel and wheelbarrow large rock fragments away immediately to clear work paths. Phase 2: Surface Preparation & Slope Testing • Inspect the slab: Check the concrete base for deep cracks, divots, or structural shifting. • Repair concrete: Fill cracks and holes with a high-strength concrete patching compound. • Conduct a water flow test: Pour buckets of water on the slab to ensure it drains away from the pool. • Correct the slope: Use a self-leveling underlayment to fix low spots and maintain a 1/4- inch per foot slope. • Grind high spots: Use a concrete grinder to flatten any uneven ridges or bumps. -- 3 of 20 -- • Apply waterproofing: Coat the clean concrete with a premium outdoor waterproofing membrane. Phase 3: Tile Layout and Cutting • Find the center: Mark perpendicular chalk lines across the deck to find your starting point. • Dry lay tiles: Arrange a section of tiles without mortar to check the visual pattern. • Minimize thin cuts: Adjust the layout lines so perimeter tiles are at least half-size. • Cut edge pieces: Use a wet tile saw with a diamond blade for precise cuts. Phase 4: Tile Installation • Mix outdoor mortar: Use a highly polymer-modified thinset rated for exterior and submerged use. • Comb the thinset: Spread mortar onto the concrete using a 1/2-inch square-notched trowel. • Back-butter tiles: Apply a thin layer of mortar directly to the back of each tile. • Set the tiles: Press tiles firmly into the mortar bed with a slight twisting motion. • Insert tile spacers: Use leveling spacers to maintain consistent joint widths and prevent lippage. Grouting & Expansion Testing • Clean the joints: Remove excess thinset from between the tiles before it cures completely. • Apply exterior grout: Pack the joints with water-resistant, polymer-modified grout using a rubber float. • Wipe away haze: Sponge off excess grout from the tile faces using clean, damp water. • Caulk expansion joints: Fill perimeter edges and structural joints with flexible, pool-grade polyurethane sealant. • Perform a hollow-tile test: Tap cured tiles lightly with a mallet to listen for hollow sounds indicating poor bonding. Final Cleanup & Sealing • Remove haze completely: Clean remaining grout residue using a specialized, tile-safe acid or haze remover. • Deep vacuum: Use a heavy-duty shop vacuum to pull …
