GENERAL STATEMENT:
This contract is to fulfill the Dillon Field Office (DFO) need for Cattleguards. The Bid Value
Schedule will provide quantities and lengths of cattleguards as required by this contract. The
Contractor awarded this contract is responsible for delivery of the materials to the BLM Admin
Site located at 1005 Selway Drive, Dillon Mt. 59725. At the BLM site, BLM will provide
forklift and operator for off-loading materials.
REQUIRED FEATURES – CATTLEGUARD GRID:
*All steel components shall be ASTM A-36, unless indicated otherwise on the drawings.
*Design load of Grid shall conform to AASHTO HS-20.
*Steel Grids shall be all-welded construction. Welds shall be secure and complete along both
edges of cross pieces and at joints in the frame, and conform to AWS D1.1.
*Rails shall be solid continuous members; they shall not have butt welds.
*Paint: Structural steel shall be cleaned according to SSPC SP-6. Cattleguards Grids and end
wings shall each receive a prime coat and finish coat. The prime coat shall be a lead free, zinc-
rich, rust-inhibitive alkyd metal primer. Minimum thickness shall be 1-1/2 mils dry-film
thickness. The finish coat shall be an oil alkyd-enamel, gloss paint. Minimum thickness shall be
3MIL dry film thickness, applied in two applications.
*Paint color shall be federal safety yellow or match color No. 13655, FED specification TT-C-
595. Cattleguards and wings shall be painted after fabrication.
*Manufacturer’s Literature: Submit 2 copies of the manufacture’s descriptive data including
design data for commercial cattleguards grids.
*Certificates: Submit 2 copies of written certification from the supplier that the cattleguards
conform to the requirements as shown on the drawings and stated in the specification notes.
REQUIRED FEATURES – CATTLEGUARD BASES:
*Bases shall be of precast concrete with 3,000 psi, 28 day compressive strength. Concrete shall
be smooth finished, and free of voids, excessive honeycomb, or other imperfections.
*Each base will have at least one lift eye set into the face, welded to the rebar, for lifting the
base.

*Each end of each base will have two ½” threaded anchor bolts extending 4” from the base, for
attaching side boards. Anchor bolts will be 3” and 9” from the top of the base, and centered into
the upright part of the base.
* Each base will be 3” longer than its nominal size, i.e., 12’ bases will measure 12’ 3”, 14’ bases
will measure 14’3”, and 16’ bases will measure 16’3”.
