The work consists of furnishing all labor, supervision, equipment, transportation, and materials for the installation of the new BUR roof system. Prior to the installation of the new roof systems, inspect the existing roof substrate for signs of deterioration or damage. Notify the COR if repairs are needed before proceeding with the repairs and the installation of the new BUR roof system. The Contractor should carefully review all sections of the specifications to completely understand the work and all constraints including schedule, and material requirements. The Contractor is encouraged to proceed in an orderly and expeditious manner according to a construction schedule developed by the Contractor and mutually agreed upon with the Contracting Officer prior to the commencement of the work. All work is to be done in strict accordance with all building codes and regulations, plans and specifications, and subject to the terms and conditions of the contract. 2.0 Redwood Sciences Laboratory Building The Redwood Sciences Laboratory (RSL) Building #27012809 Is located on the Cal-Poly Tech Humboldt Campus at 1700 Bayview St., Arcata, California, 95521. Some of the Six Rivers National Forest Supervisors’ Office Staff (SO) have moved into the RSL to share the space with the Pacific Southwest Research Station staff. The existing BU R5dR roof is failing and needs to be replaced. 3.0 Tasks Existing Roof System Removal Remove and replace approximately 10,300 square feet of the existing built-up roofing (BUR) system on the Redwood Sciences Laboratory. The existing roof system, insulation, flashings, and related trims shall be completely removed to the original decking and legally disposed of off the property. The existing deck substrate should be examined, and any deteriorated sections of the deck shall be repaired or replaced. The removal of the existing roof system shall be coordinated with the installation of the new roof to prevent exposure to weather conditions and potential water infiltration into the building. The contractor shall identify all requirements for safety devices, dumpster location, chutes or other methods of roofing material removal, protection from exposure to the weather, protection of property and personnel, building access routes and circulation patterns, contractors use of the premises, parking, security procedures, equipment and materials storage, waste disposal, etc. Caulking & Joint Sealants All defective roof deck joint sealants shall be removed and replaced with high performance sealant as part of the roof system. The design shall include cleaning, priming, and installation of new sealants with new backer rods and bond breakers. New Roofing System Install a new BUR system in accordance with the requirements of the roofing manufacturer.
