What this opportunity is

The NATIONAL AERONAUTICS AND SPACE ADMINISTRATION is procuring a NETZSCH Simultaneous Thermal Analyzer, specifically the STA 509 Jupiter model, for the Johnson Space Center Astromaterials Research & Exploration Sciences Division. This 8(a) Sole Source procurement is suitable for small businesses certified under the 8(a) Business Development program, which is a set-aside program for historically underutilized businesses. The notice type is a Solicitation, indicating that interested parties should track the opportunity for updates rather than preparing a bid.

Description

STATEMENT OF WORK 1. Objective/Requirements The NASA Johnson Space Center Astromaterials Research & Exploration Sciences Division requires the procurement of a NETZSCH Simultaneous Thermal Analyzer. 2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs LINE PART NO. DESCRIPTION QTY. 1 STA509SEA13.000- 00 STA 509 Jupiter® Simultaneous Thermal Analyzer (TG-DSC/DTA Apparatus) Temperature range according to selected furnace consisting of: STA509SEA13.000-00 STA 509 Jupiter Select ASC automatic sample changer, "Heavy" Basic system with top-loading micro balance, electrical temperature control unit for the balance chamber, electric motor driven furnace hoist and built-in furnace control and power supply, programmable gas flows for 3 or 4 gases. The system is suitable for measurements in normal atmosphere, in dynamic and static inert gas atmosphere. The instrument is vacuum-tight (10E-4 mbar, achievable vacuum depending on the actual evacuation system). Equipped with: - Automatic furnace hoist "Heavy" prepared for supporting a heavy maximum temperature furnace and the automatic sample changer - Automatic sample changer (ASC) for automatic handling of up to 20 crucibles, with removable magazine, including 20 alumina sample crucibles GB399972 (85μl), complete with control electronics (expandable with a separately available piercing add-on) - Colored touch display for important functions for measurement and calibration - Colored LED status bar with clear indication of the instrument status and measurement progress - Integrated TA system controller for data acquisition, temperature control, gas flow control - Temperature range: -150°C...2000°C (depending on the selected furnace) - Heating rates: 0.001...1000 K/min (depending on furnace selected) - Balance system Weighing range: 35 g Digital resolution: 0.1 μg Initial sample weight: 35 g max. (incl. sample pan) 1 2 SW-9-STA509SE SW-9-STA509SE 1 -- 1 of 11 -- Proteus basic software for STA 509 Select for data acquisition, storage and evaluation under MS WINDOWS with ExpertMode user interface. ExpertMode allows access to the complete software functionality, many settings and detailed help documentation. Contains AutoEvaluation (for TGA and DSC) for automatic evaluation of effects, BeFlat® (for TGA and DSC) for automatic buoyancy and baseline correction, as well as the Report Generator for simple and customizable creation of reports. Detailed information: see technical data sheet STA software Proetus 9.x (Hardware requirements: up-to-date PC with MS Windows per technical datasheet and printer) 3 SW-EVDSC- OPTION Proteus option AutoEvaluation for DSC measuring data (DSC AutoEvaluation) The Software extension "DSC AutoEvaluation" finds the thermal effects on the measured DSC data for heating segments with stable baseline before the first thermal effect and after the last thermal effect. Suitable for automatic evaluation of metal melting, which is used for calibration procedure, for evaluation of polymers and in general for endo and exothermic effects upon heating. Furthermore for the determination of the oxidation induction time or temperature (OIT) based on tangential and offset methods. The AutoEvaluation function "UV-Curing" significantly simplifies the evaluation of measurements of light-curing materials: correction of the heat introduced by the light pulse is automatically performed, as well as an evaluation of the partial enthalpies, a display of the total reaction enthalpy, and the percentage of cross-linking. For melting of metals the evaluation range, onset and peak area for one melting peak are found. For polymers, the effects such as melting, glass transition, crystallization, curing, evaporation of additives, melting of plasticizers, multiple melting peak and multiple glass transition are found. For each thermal effect its type is defined, the evaluation range is found automatically, and automatic evaluation is done corresponding to detected effect type. Automatic evaluation of endo- and exothermic effects for STA instruments can be set as dependent on the mass changes evaluated. -- 2 of 11 -- In general, one can select which effects are evaluated and which effect properties are shown; furthermore one can change the thresholds of the sizes of the effects to be evaluated. Results of AutoEvaluation are independent from operator, and serve as the verification for experts. After performing of automatic evaluation its results can be edited manually. (Required: Most recent version of Proteus basic software, version 9.x and up) 4 SW-EVTGA- OPTION Software extension TGA Auto-Evaluation for Proteus 9 The Software extension "TGA AutoEvaluation" finds the individual mass change steps on the measured TGA data for heating, cooling, isothermal segments and for complete measurement curve of several different segments. Suitable for automatic evaluation of mass change including both mass loss and mass gain. TGA Autoevaluation contains analysis of TGA curve and automatic calculation of DTG curve and analysis of it. For each mass change step the evaluation range is found automatically, and automatic evaluation of it is done on TGA and DTG curves. Overlapping steps are evaluated separately if they have a well-visible peak or a well visible shoulder on DTG data. One can change the threshold of the size of mass changes to be evaluated. Furthermore, one can select if the DTG curve and the residual mass are evaluated and shown. Results of TGA AutoEvaluation are independent from operator, and serve as the verification for experts. After performing of automatic evaluation, its results can be editable manually. (Required: Proteus basic software version 9.x) 1 5 SW-DSCBFLT- OPTION Software extension "DSC-BeFlat" for Proteus Software extension "DSC-BeFlat" for correction of temperature and heating rate dependent DSC baseline deviations applying a physical model to achieve highest baseline stability with minimal curvature in wide temperature ranges. The correction is alread
