Two (2) Safety Showers
and Installation
I. GENERAL INFORMATION
Introduction:
The USGS Wetland and Aquatic Research Center (WARC) provides USGS science throughout the
Southeastern United States and elsewhere in the world. We also develop new and innovative ways to meet the
critical need for sound, objective scientific information that can be applied to issues of local to international
concern. As such, WARC conducts research in laboratories using corrosive chemicals and is required by
American National Standards Institute - ANSI Z358.1-2014 to have safety showers within 10 seconds of the
hazard with an unobstructed pathway. USGS wishes to purchase 2 self-contained emergency showers with eye
and face wash units contained within the shower. The self-contained shower must have an integrated drain
sump and strip screens to reduce the risk of contaminated water outside of the shower into the existing lab
space. The showers will be installed within existing laboratory spaces with water and electrical connections.
II. WORK REQUIREMENTS
Technical requirements:
A. All-in-one ANSI compliant enclosed combination cubicle shower and eye/face wash with a sump pump
for indoor use
B. Exterior cubicle dimensions- 94.8” H by 40.2” W by 41.3” D
C. Minimum operating pressure 29 PSI (SHOWER) with pull down handle to initiate water flow with
connection capacity to the existing building plumbing system
D. Water flow within shower at 20 gallons per minute
E. Water flow must be hands free after initial activation
F. Sump pump ¼ HP with 120 V electrical to remove water from the enclosed shower
G. Full length plastic strip screen to reduce water spray outside of cubicle
H. Internally mounted eye/face wash that is hand activated with capped ABS lids
I. Eye/face wash water flow at least 3 gallons per minute
J. Unit internal piping made of stainless steel

III. SUPPORTING INFORMATION
B. In the event the contractor encounters difficulty in meeting performance requirements, or when it
anticipates difficulty in complying with the contract delivery schedule or date, or whenever the
contractor has knowledge that any actual or potential situation is delaying or threatens to delay the
timely performance of this contract, the contractor shall immediately notify the Contracting Officer, in
writing, giving pertinent details. This data shall be informational only in character.

• The shower must meet ANSI and OSHA regulations for flow rate, temperature, shower/eyewash
initiation controls. Per 29 CFR 1910.151(c) “Where the eyes or body of any person may be exposed to
injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body
shall be provided within the work area for immediate emergency use.” OSHA references the American
National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA)
