Description
Statement of Work
Road Boring -West Bank Met. Station Installation
The selected contractor will provide road boring or “trenching” beneath Louisiana highway 306
(Bayou Gauche Road) at 29°47'19.1" N, 90°25'12.1"W. The contractor will install a 2” diameter
conduit to run electrical wiring from the NOAA water level monitoring station on Bayou Gauche
in Louisiana to a location approximately 200ft to the north on the opposite side of Highway 306.
The conduit will then pass through an empty grass lot owned by the Bayou Gauche Fire
Department. NOAA will coordinate with the property owner to facilitate the work specified here.
The contractor will provide all services, personnel, and equipment needed to bore the hole
beneath the road, and place the conduit to run the entire distance to the new meteorological
system location in the lot.The final location of the end of the conduit run in the grass lot will be
determined by NOAA after the contract award, but the distance will not exceed 200 feet from the
water level station on the bayou. The contractor will be responsible for any necessary
permitting, and locating any underground utilities before excavation. The contractor will be
responsible for any damages to underground utilities resulting from the excavation and boring
processes.
The necessary depth for the conduit to pass safely beneath the road will be determined by the
contractor. The conduit trench depth as it passes through the grass lot to the meteorological
equipment will be no more than 3 feet, and no less than 1 foot. The contractor will refill the
trench with dirt as needed to ensure level ground after trenching and installing the conduit.
The contractor will provide an appropriate conduit access box with cover at the end of the
conduit where it exits the ground at both ends of the run. The conduit access box will be within 3
feet of the concrete pad where the meteorological station will be located, and the opposite end
as close as practical to the water level station on the bayou. The conduit access box should be
at least 12” above grade and no taller than 18” above grade. If the concrete pad in the grass lot
has not been installed at the time of the work NOAA will mark the location to ensure proper
conduit placement.
Once the conduit is installed the contractor will place a pull line inside the conduit to facilitate the
installation of the wiring from the water level station to the meteorological station in the grass lot.
NOAA will be responsible for running the electrical wiring using the pull line the contractor
leaves in place.
