What this opportunity is
The Department of Agriculture is buying cryotanks and racking systems, specifically 7 cryogenic freezers, which suits businesses with a NAICS code of 332420. This combined synopsis/solicitation notice means that small businesses should track the opportunity rather than bidding immediately. The place of performance is Colorado, where the Agricultural Genetic Resources Preservation Research unit in Fort Collins requires the equipment for long-term cryogenic storage of genetic resources.

SECTION 01 Need Statement
USDA ARS CARR AGRPRU request 7 cryogenic freezers to continue research.
1. Mission Need
The NLGRP maintains long-term cryogenic storage of critical genetic resources, including plant, animal, and microbial germplasm essential to USDA research, food security, and global agricultural preservation efforts. Reliable, liquid and vapor-phase cryogenic storage at -150 to –190°C using liquid nitrogen is required to ensure viability and long-term stability of irreplaceable plant and animal germplasm. Failure of storage equipment will result in irreversible loss of national genetic resources assets.
Brand-Name Justification
Request to Specify Brand Name: MVE HEco / HE 1879P-190AF-GB (PN 20681339)
1. Compatibility Requirements
NLGRP’s existing cryogenic infrastructure is standardized around MVE 1800-series geometry and systems. Switching brands would require major replacement of racks, SOP revisions, freezer monitoring systems, and retraining.
2. Unique Technical Features
- CryoVerse™ Connect controller with data logging, security, and remote monitoring.
- Gas Bypass Automatic Fill System minimizing temperature fluctuations.
- Proven –190°C vapor-phase and -190°C liquid nitrogen uniformity for sensitive storage.
3. Risk Avoidance
Standardization prevents inconsistent storage conditions and supports continuity-of-operations planning.
4. Total Cost of Ownership
MVE HEco systems offer reduced LN₂ usage and long-term maintainability, lowering lifetime costs.
Conclusion: The MVE 1879P-190AF-GB is the only model that meets NLGRP’s critical cryogenic storage requirements.
