Notice Of Intent to Sole Source - Thermo Fisher Scientific Asheville LLC - Centrifuge Calibration

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Health Effects Laboratory Division (HELD), hereby announces its intent to award and issue a sole source order/contract, firm-fixed price purchase order to Thermo Fisher Scientific Asheville LLC, 275 Aiken Road, Asheville, North Carolina, 28804-8740. The purpose of this acquisition is to have Health Effects Laboratory Division (HELD) centrifuges undergo preventative maintenance and calibration by Thermo Fisher Scientific Asheville LLC. Thermo Fisher Scientific Asheville LLC shall perform visual and functional checks for rotor condition, imbalance indicators, lid locks, refrigeration performance (where applicable), and overall mechanical integrity. Key parameters will be calibrated according to International Standard Organization (ISO) 17025 standards. Those parameters include speed, temperature, timer, and imbalance or brake testing. Regular calibration of centrifuges is essential because it ensures that rotational speed, temperature control (when applicable), and timing functions remain accurate, which directly affects the reliability and reproducibility of experimental results. Proper calibration also supports laboratory quality standards by verifying that instruments operate within manufacturer specifications and safety limits, reducing the risk of sample loss, equipment strain, or mechanical failure. This contract action is for a service which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of FAR 6.103-1(b) and 10 U.S.C. 3204(a)(1) or 41 U.S.C. 3304(a)(1). The NAICS code for this acquisition is 811210 – Electronic and Precision Equipment Repair and Maintenance. Interested vendors that believe they can meet these requirements are encouraged to identify themselves and give written notice by providing a capability statement to the Contracting Specialist by September 16, 2026. The Contracting Specialist will not respond to verbal request. All requests must be in writing. This is not a request for competitive quotations; however, the Government will review any/all product, capabilities, and pricing information submitted prior to the closure of this notice. A determination by the government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
