Description

STATEMENT OF WORK TOOLING FOR MITSUBISHI MD+PRO II WIRE EDM MODEL: BA8 SERIAL NUMBER: 50DB8327 1. Background The Mitsubishi MD+Pro II Wire EDM machine is utilized in the fabrication of precision tooling and flight-quality hardware supporting laboratory astrophysics, astrochemistry, astrobiology instrumentation, and small satellite development projects within the Ames Instrument Development Laboratory. The existing tooling package associated with this machine was supplied as part of the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) configuration and has provided reliable service. However, additional and upgraded tooling is required to support current metrological, tolerancing, repeatability, and work-holding requirements associated with modern scientific and aerospace hardware fabrication. The existing work-holding platform is based on the System 3R tooling philosophy and interface standard. Maintaining compatibility with the installed System 3R infrastructure is necessary to preserve tooling interchangeability, setup repeatability, operator familiarity, and process consistency across ongoing laboratory operations. Improved work-holding capability and presetting functionality will reduce setup time, minimize operator intervention, improve machining efficiency, and support more predictable delivery schedules for mission-critical hardware. 2. Scope NASA Ames Research Center currently operates a Mitsubishi MD+Pro II Wire EDM machine equipped with System 3R-compatible work-holding components. NASA Ames Research Center requires the procurement of additional System 3R-compatible tooling and accessories to expand fabrication capability, improve setup repeatability, and maximize operational efficiency within the Ames Instrument Development Laboratory. 3. Specifications The Government has a requirement for tooling compatible with the Mitsubishi MD+Pro II Wire EDM machine and existing System 3R tooling infrastructure. The required tooling, manufactured by System 3R, includes the following: • Reference Element 298 mm/M8-50 (Qty: 2) • 3Ruler 365 x 45 x 30 with clamps, Z-Line supports, and associated hardware (Qty: 1) -- 1 of 2 -- • User Kit, WEDM (Qty: 1) • Super Vice, 0–150 mm Magnum (Qty: 1) • WEDM Presetting Station, 12 x 8 x 4 (Qty: 1) • Manual Lathe Chuck, Macro (Qty: 1) • 3R Taper Hardinge 5C Macro Adapter, T7535 (Qty: 1) 4. Compatibility Requirement All tooling supplied under this procurement shall be fully compatible with existing System 3R tooling, pallets, references, and interfaces currently installed and operational on the Mitsubishi MD+Pro II Wire EDM system at NASA Ames Research Center. No substitute tooling systems shall be accepted that require modification of existing infrastructure, adapters, machine interfaces, or operating procedures. 5. Delivery Requirements All tooling shall be delivered complete, fully assembled where applicable, and ready for installation and operational use upon receipt. All supplied components shall be new and free from defects 6. Period of Performance: 30 days or less from ARO NASA Technical POC: Emmett Quigley NASA Ames Research Center Mailstop 245-6 Moffett Field, CA 94035 -- 2 of 2 --
