1 STATEMENT OF WORK DRILL WATER WELL EASTERN VIRGINIA RIVERS NWR WARSAW, VIRGINIA PART 1 - GENERAL 1.01 SCOPE A. The work of this section consists of drilling, developing, and testing a new 4 inch diameter cased artesian water supply well. The location of the work site is at the Eastern Virginia Rivers National Wildlife, 336 Wilna Road, Warsaw, Virginia 22572. B. The new well shall be capable of delivering a desired safe yield of 10 gallons per minute of clean, fresh, potable water. The estimated depth of the new well shall be determined in the field with concurrence from the facility manager. The area where the well is to be drilled may have three strata that typically yield decent water, one is from 200-300 feet deep, another one is 400-600 ft. If there is a need to drill to the 800 foot deep strata, the facility manager shall made aware of this and provide approval before proceeding. C. The proposed depths are estimates only and the Government reserves the right to increase or decrease the depth of the well under a modification to the contract if field conditions so warrant. D. The location of the new well shall be based upon site conditions, and in compliance with the Virginia Department of Heath requirements for minimum distance from a septic system, a building foundation, and from the building foundation if it is termite treated. Coordinate the proposed location of the well with Bill Crouch. E. The approximate location for the new well shall be agreed upon with Bill Crouch. Should unforeseen site conditions arise during the siting and drilling of the well, contact the Contracting Officer and the Contracting Officer's representative, and notify the on-site Government representative Bill Crouch. F. The contractor shall provide a proposal for the drilling of the water well and appurtenant work. 1.02 PERMITS A. The Contractor shall coordinate with the Refuge to obtain and pay for the required documents for the Well Construction permit from the local State Health Department. Contractor shall apply and pay for any required permits from authorized agencies. No field operations shall commence until necessary approvals have been obtained. All installations shall meet the minimum requirements of the State and Local Public Health -- 1 of 6 -- 2 Agencies. 1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Perform work in accordance with the State of Virginia Regulations, and the American National Standards Institute/American Water Works Association. 1.04 SUBMITTALS A. Submit Manufacturer's data with application and installation instructions for the well screen. B. Submit Construction Methods and Materials descriptions on well construction, developing and testing. C. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's product data covering description of pitless adapter, pump, standard details and installation recommendations. 1.05 GENERAL SAFETY REQUIREMENTS A. The Contractor shall be responsible for strict compliance with all provisions of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements 29 CFR 1910 and 29CFR 1926. PART 2 - PIPING 2.01 WELL CASING AND INSTALLATION A. Material - The well casing shall be 4" diameter pipe. The casing material shall be Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) pipe conforming to American Society for Testing and Materials ASTM F480. B. Casing and joints shall be watertight. 2.02 WELL SCREEN A. Should unconsolidated water bearing strata be found, Contractor shall set a well screen as specified below. B. The well screen shall be of the continuous slot, factory wound type made by wrapping V-shaped PVC wire around a system of vertical ribs. Each joint between horizontal wires and vertical ribs shall be solvent welded. All necessary fittings shall be provided. C. Screen length shall be determined and agreed upon between the Government and the Contractor. -- 2 of 6 -- 3 D. Contractor shall assume responsibility for selection of proper size screen openings. Screens shall be selected so that the full capacity of the well will be transmitted through the slot openings. Screen slot size shall be determined by a soil sieve analysis. A fitting shall be provided to close the bottom of the screen. Details or catalog cuts of the screen to be used shall be submitted to the Government for approval prior to installation. 2.03 PITLESS ADAPTER A. Description: Standard pitless case, watertight cap, 4" plain spool with neoprene "0" ring seals and dresser type coupling suitable for connection to the 4" PVC pipe casing. 2.04 WELL PUMP A. Capacity: 10 gallons per minute. B. Type of Pump: Submersible, designed for installation within a 4" SDR 17 or approved equal well casing. C. Motor: One half HP minimum designed to operate on single phase, 60 HZ A.C. Motor shall be a three wire design with built in lightning protection, and built in auto-reset thermal overload protection in the motor. Wire pump into in accordance with electrical requirements as specified and as described in the manufacturers instructions. D. Drop pipe size shall be as recommended by the submersible pump manufacturer. 2.05 DETECTABLE WARNING TAPE A. Detectable warning tape; Acid- and alkali-resistant polyethylene film warning tape manufactured for marking and identifying underground utilities, minimum 6 inch wide and 4 mils thick, continuously inscribed with a description of utility, with metallic core encased in a protective jacket for corrosion protection, detectable by metal detector when tape is buried up to 12 inches deep; colored as follows: 1. Red: Electric. 2. Blue: Water systems. 2.06 APPURTENANT ITEMS A. The Contactor shall furnish and install all appurtenant components and items for a fully operational well system. PART 3 - ELECTRICAL 3.01 SCOPE A Provide and install electrical power wiring and components to connect the well pump to -- 3 of 6 -- 4 the electrical supply.
