TABLE OF CONTENTS DIVISION 01 - GENERAL REQUIREMENTS Section 01 10 00 - Division 01 Short Form General Requirements APPENDIX A: PICTURES SECTION 01 10 00 DIVISION 1 SHORT FORM GENERAL REQUIREMENTS PART 1 – GENERAL ITEM 1 - DESCRIPTION OF WORK Background: The Zion East Entrance Station #1 was constructed in 2003 and serves as the entrance station for visitors entering the East side of Zion National Park. This rehabilitation project consists of replacing all exterior windows, repairing damaged soffit components, repointing sandstone masonry, and repainting the exterior of the structure. The components included in this project have deteriorated and may fail if nothing is done. 1.2 Work Covered by the Contract Documents: Project Location: East Entrance Station #1, Zion National Park, Kane County, Utah.84755. Work consists of: -Exterior window removal and replacement.. -Exterior surface preparation and painting -Exterior metal door preparation and painting -Minor soffit repair and replacement -Repointing of exterior sandstone masonry (Contractor shall provide all products and equipment in this section to be the same or Approved Equal) Work includes: Window Removal and Installation North (Entrance Lane)-56” x 54” slider (Main). 1 each North (Entrance Lane)-24” x 54” non slider. 1 each East (Front)-42” x 36” slider. 2 each. 1 left slide and 1 right slide. South-(Door) 42” x 36” slider. 1 each West-(Rear) 42” x 36” slider. 1 each Windows shall be a WINCO Series 3410 or equivalent Verify all field measurements prior to fabrication. Inspect existing window openings for: -Structural integrity -Moisture damage -Out-of-square conditions Protect adjacent finishes, masonry, and interior surfaces. Confirm submittals are approved prior to installation. Remove interior trim and sealants.Carefully remove existing sashes, frames, and fasteners.Avoid damage to surrounding sandstone masonry. Clean opening of debris, dust, and loose material. Repair any damaged substrate. Install sill pan flashing (preformed or fluid-applied). Install jamb and head flashing as required. Verify opening is: -Plumb -Level -Square Set window into opening on shims at sill. Center unit and verify alignment. Shim at jambs and head as required. Fasten window per manufacturer requirements: -Anchor through frame into structure -Maintain proper spacing of fasteners Verify window is: -Plumb -Level -Square -Operable without binding Installation shall comply with manufacturer’s written instructions for Winco 3410 or approved equal. Contractor shall provide full-frame replacement installation unless otherwise approved by the COR. All flashing and sealant systems shall provide a continuous weather-tight barrier. Repair or replace existing soffit trim matching existing materials Provide and install commercial-grade fabric privacy blinds at all newly replaced windows and door window. Blinds shall be durable, commercial quality, neutral in color, and suitable for high-use public facilities. Contractor shall field verify dimensions and provide all mounting hardware, fasteners, and accessories required for a complete installation. Exterior surface preparation and painting. Remove dirt, dust, grease, biological growth, and loose material.Pressure wash surfaces where required prior to sandblasting.Protect adjacent surfaces, windows, and landscaping. Perform abrasive blasting as required to remove: -Existing coatings -Rust or corrosion -Surface contaminants Apply primer compatible with substrate and finish coating. Prime all exposed surfaces after preparation. Apply primer in accordance with manufacturer’s requirements for: -Coverage -Thickness -Cure time Apply finish coatings to achieve full coverage and uniform appearance. Apply a minimum of: -One (1) primer coat -Two (2) finish coats (unless manufacturer requires otherwise) Paint shall: -Match existing color and sheen -Be appropriate for exterior exposure Apply coatings evenly with no: -Runs -Drips -Lap marks -Visible defects Prepare exterior 84”x36”, metal door by removing: -Rust -Loose coatings Prime and paint door using coatings suitable for metal surfaces. -Match existing color and sheen -Be appropriate for exterior exposure Install new door sweep and weather stripping as specified. Repointing of exterior sandstone masonry The Contractor shall furnish all labor, materials, tools, and equipment necessary to repoint sandstone masonry. Work includes removal of deteriorated mortar, preparation of joints, and installation of new mortar compatible with existing materials. All work shall preserve the integrity and appearance of the existing sandstone masonry. Protect all adjacent materials, including: -Sandstone units -Windows and trim -Finished surfaces Remove existing deteriorated mortar to a minimum depth of: -2 to 2-1/2 times the joint width, or -Until sound mortar is reached -Use hand tools or low-impact mechanical tools only. -Do NOT use high-speed grinders that may damage stone. Remove mortar uniformly without widening joints. Clean joints of dust and debris prior to repointing. Thoroughly clean joints using: -Compressed air -Brushes -Water (as required) Pre-wet joints prior to placing new mortar to: -Prevent rapid moisture loss -Improve bond Mortar shall be: -Compatible with existing sandstone -Lower strength than the stone (sacrificial mortar) -Similar in color, texture, and composition Mortar mix design shall be submitted for approval prior to use. Do NOT use high-strength Portland cement mortars that may damage sandstone. Place mortar in layers not exceeding 3/8-inch thickness. Compact each layer thoroughly to eliminate voids.
