Hay must:
Be free of noxious weeds and weed seeds as identified by the South Dakota Department of Agriculture.
Be composed of grasses native to South Dakota or composed of non-native grasses that are common forage grasses; for example: intermediate wheatgrass.
Not contain forages such as forage sorghums; for example: Sudan grass.
Contain not more than 20% alfalfa or yellow clover.
Be in the form of big round bales (rolled hard core center bales of hay weighing approximately 1,000 to 1500 lbs).
Be free of trash.
Be well cured with low moisture content. Must not be musty or moldy.
Not be composed hay from grain crops or straw from harvested grain.
Be comprised of greater than 80% percent of stems containing leaf material.
Be cut during the current year.
Be delivered to the Buffalo Corrals at Badlands National Park 09-01-2026 - 09/30/2026.
Additionally:
Each load must be weighed by certified scale and ticket delivered to person receiving hay at time of delivery.
Seller or driver must have all certification to deliver hay into South Dakota.
Delivery location: deliver to bison corrals on Sage Creek Rim Road, 8 miles south of Wall.
Delivery: Delivery will be coordinated through the vendor and Park point of contact provided at time of award. Hay delivery shall arrive no later than 2:00pm MST on the day of delivery. Park staff will offload hay at delivery location. Contractor will not be required to unload.
Additional Information: Quotes shall be submitted as a firm fixed price per ton, all costs inclusive, including delivery. Successful bidder must be certified to sell hay in the state of South Dakota and be registered at www.SAM.gov before an award can be made.
