Description
STATEMENT OF WORK
1. Objective/Requirements
This procurement is for a Delta Q Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer to replace an
existing older Delta V Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer.
2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs
One each of the system components shall be provided as listed in Table 1. The Contractor
shall provide one (1) new Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer (IRMS) system, specifically
the Thermo Scientific Delta Q IRMS, capable of high-precision measurement of stable
isotopes (e.g., ¹³C/¹²C, D/H, ¹⁵N/¹⁴N, ¹⁸O/¹⁶O, ³⁴S/³²S). The instrument shall be fully
compatible with the Government’s existing Thermo Fisher Scientific peripheral devices
and sample introduction systems without the need for third-party modifications.
Shall feature a monolithic, multi-collector Faraday cup array configured to measure
multiple isotopic masses simultaneously.
Capable of simultaneously collecting m/z 44, 45, 46 (for CO2) or 28, 29, 30 (for N2)
Shall include specific collectors and retardation lenses/filters for the elimination of
He scatter during high-precision D/H (m/z 2 and 3) measurements.
Differential Pumping Module comprising an additional 70 L/s turbo molecular pump
at the ion source.
The system shall be controlled by Thermo Scientific Qtegra Intelligent Scientific
Data Solution (ISDS) software (or the exact proprietary equivalent required to
interface with existing Thermo peripherals)
Shall achieve a sensitivity of better than 800 molecules of CO2 per ion at the collector
in continuous flow mode
System shall demonstrate benchmark precision (e.g., < 0.1 ‰ for ¹³C in continuous
flow mode) during site acceptance testing.
The IRMS shall be natively capable of plug-and-play integration with the laboratory's
existing Thermo Scientific instrumentation including: ConFlo IV, GasBench II,
Precon devier, GC Isolink II plus Trace GC 1610, ISQ 7610 Quadrupole Mass
Spectrometer, and Flash Elemental Analyzer.
The software shall natively control the Government's existing peripheral devices from
a single integrated user interface, allowing for automated, unattended batch runs.
A Dual Inlet system allowing gas transfer from Dual Inlet bellows to the changeover
valve of the DELTA Q IRMS is via two inert capillaries
A ConFlo IV Universal Interface to allow the simultaneous attachment of two high
flow peripherals alongside one low flow peripheral to an Isotope Ratio MS with the
capability to deliver 5 reference gases
Changeover valve mounted directly to the ion source housing for minimal
dead volume and minimum gas path length.
Power conversion from 3-phase to single phase

Contractor is responsible for shipping, handling, and delivery to NASA Goddard
Space Flight Center.
Contractor shall provide an OEM-certified field service engineer to uncrate, install,
connect to existing peripherals, and commission the IRMS.
Following installation, the engineer shall provide on-site familiarization training for
laboratory personnel on basic operation, maintenance, and software use.
The system shall include a minimum one-year (12-month) comprehensive OEM
warranty covering all parts, labor, and travel for hardware and software defects
Contractor shall provide access to technical telephone/email support during normal
business hours.
The contents of Table 1 including all hardware, software, and supplies shall be delivered within
8 weeks of date of PO issue.
