The locations and tasks are listed in Section 3.0 of the document. This project shall be proposed as a base plus options The contractor shall phase these efforts to maintain partial facility operations and research during construction. Phasing subject to approval of the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR). 2.0 Background The Ames, Iowa USDA facility includes approximately 11,645,595.57 square feet of exterior animal holding areas and research food-production fields, equivalent to about 267.34 acres. The animal holding locations, including corral fencing and feeding areas and pasture fencing, require constant maintenance and repairs due to the various conditions such as age, weather, and daily usage. Contractor Requirements 3.0 Technical Requirements / Tasks Work shall be phased as needed to maintain continuous containment of animals. Coordinate phasing with contracting officer’s representative (COR) to minimize campus disruption. The project shall be proposed as follows: Base Bid: Pasture Fencing at Field Barn 207 Option 1: Pasture Fencing at Field Barn 208 Option 2: Corral Fencing, Backstop and Slab at Field Barn 201 and 202 Option 3: Corral Fencing, Backstop and Slab at Field Barn 203 and 204 Option 4: Concrete Slab, Knee Walls and Metal Posts at FB 209 Option 5: Concrete Slab, Knee Walls and Metal Posts - Field Barn H6 Option 6: Concrete Slab, Knee Walls and Metal Posts - Field Barn Z3 The following are the requirements of each pasture. Pastures with identical requirements are grouped together for clarity. The contractor shall install the new fencing system at each field barn as specified and shown in the drawings. The contractor should pay specific attention to the Add Alternatives and separate out the pastures as required. Pasture Fencing - Field Barn 207 and 208 (10 Days to Complete): The Contractor shall furnish all labor, equipment, and materials necessary to complete the following: Fence Removal The contractor shall remove and properly dispose of approximately 1,476 linear feet (each pasture) of existing field barn pasture fencing. This includes fence fabric, wire strands, barbed wire, posts of all types, lumber components, and concrete footings. Post holes and footing voids shall be filled with suitable compacted material to match existing grades, and voids in concrete surfaces shall be filled with concrete matching existing pad composition and finish. All removed materials must be transported from the site and disposed of at an approved landfill facility. New Fence Installation Approximately 1,476 linear feet of 5‑foot‑high woven wire fencing shall be installed per the following: Constructed of minimum 12‑gauge galvanized steel with 2-inch by 4-inch mesh. Mesh shall be 48” high. The fence bottom shall not exceed 2 inches above finished grade and must be installed plumb, tight, and uniformly aligned. Fence mesh shall be secured using 1.5‑inch barbed staples installed without damaging the wire. Three strands of minimum 12¾‑gauge barbed wire shall be installed: One strand 1 inch below the woven‑wire bottom One strand 2 inches above the woven‑wire top One strand 6 inches above the woven‑wire top All strands shall be tensioned and fastened with 1.5‑inch barbed staples. The contractor shall follow the drawings and verify field conditions. Post and Footings All posts shall be new pressure‑treated wood. The following requirements must be met: Corner, end, gate hinge, and center posts: minimum 8‑inch diameter (round) Line posts: minimum 6‑inch diameter (round) Posts shall be installed plumb and aligned in concrete footings Material around footings and posts must be appropriately compacted to prevent movement. Maximum spacing between posts shall be 10 feet on center. Bracing Requirements Bracing shall be provided at all corner posts, end posts, and at center posts located along long fence runs. Bracing shall consist of 6‑inch by 6‑inch pressure‑treated lumber installed at a 45‑degree angle in accordance with project drawings. Gates Reuse existing gates in existing locations. Provide new hardware to match existing hinge/latch locations and operations. Corral Fencing, Backstop and Slab - Typical for Field Barns 201-202 (30 Days each to Complete): The Contractor shall furnish all labor, equipment, and materials necessary to complete the following: Wood Fence Removal The contractor shall remove and properly dispose of approximately 24 linear feet (each field barn) of existing field barn corral fencing. This includes fence posts of all types, lumber components, and concrete footings. Post holes and footing voids shall be filled with suitable compacted material to match existing grades, and voids in concrete surfaces shall be filled with concrete matching existing pad composition and finish.
